Greetings,
I want to introduce myself in my new role as a CTI Coordinator. I am excited and looking forward to working closely with all of you. I will be meeting with you, but I wanted to go ahead and send you a brief description of this program. It is my goal to implement this program with fidelity and set an example.
Career and Technical Instruction (CTI) is a specialized intervention service designed to support high school students with disabilities enrolled in Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education classes. The primary goals of the program are to provide these students with appropriate support in the CTAE classes that result in the attainment of entry-level job skills, self-advocacy skills, transition skills, and most of all pathway completion. These primary goals are best achieved with the support of a team.
My role as a CTI instructor are listed below:
❖ To serve as a liaison between special education and CTAE to ensure the delivery of appropriate services and accommodations to students with disabilities in their CTAE classes, labs, work-based learning environments, and small group setting.
❖ To plan and implement transition activities that support the student's career goals listed in their IEPs and career pathways.
❖ To provide employability skills training and virtual job shadowing to students with disabilities.
❖ To administer career interest/aptitude assessments for students with disabilities to aid in transition/career guidance decisions and planning.
❖ To serve as an active member of the IEP team providing expertise in the CTAE pathway options that are aligned with the student’s interests, aptitudes, strengths, and abilities.
❖ To serve as a liaison between students with disabilities and outside service providers in the community.
❖ To provide job placement support and supervision to students with disabilities in the Work-Based Learning environment.
❖ To actively market the CTI program in schools, communities, and the state.
❖ To seek an understanding of economic development in the local community and state and support efforts to develop a workforce to support employment needs.
❖ To coordinate and administer (or assist with coordination and administration) End of Pathway Assessments and other relevant and/or mandatory career assessments.
❖ To serve as an active advisor for the CTI CTSO
❖ To actively promote and assist students with disabilities memberships in national CTSOs associated with students' career pathways.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. I am looking forward to a great year for my students with disabilities completing their CTAE pathways and increasing the graduation rate.
Educationally Yours,
MZHS CTI Site Coordinator
